Answer:

I know that paint has trouble sticking if they are different: IE: Oil based paint VS Water based paint. Maybe take a sample of what originally peeled off, and see what your paint experts say. I know that paint has trouble sticking if there is any grease or dirt on the wall/ceiling. TSP works the best for cleaning prior to paint.
Along with training methods to decrease spookiness you can also get supplements that will mellow out your horses which makes them spook less often. The tripping can be caused by many things. Could be overgrown feet, poor footing where you're riding, or they could not be paying attentions to their feet. They could just be bored or tired. To help that make sure the footing wherever you're riding is correct and get the farrier to check their feet out. If I suspect my horse aren't engaged or paying attention I do weird things. I make random turns, and frequent circles. I don't just ride around in a circle over and over again. If they're just not watching where they put their feet I set up a bunch of ground poles with different lengths in between them so the horse really has to think about where it's putting it's feet. For your last problem. Do you pasture your horses with other horses? Just try to socialize them regularly with other horses so it becomes not a big deal when you ride with other horses.
Hello maxi1, Sorry to hear about your painting woes :-( I work for The Home Depot and worked for years in the painting department. From what it sounds like you did a good job of using primer but it sounds like to me due to the primer still flaking off in some areas that you still didn't get all of the old layers of paint off. The scraper can do a decent job, but I have found that using a sander, hand-powered or motorized, works best. A good sanding cuts through layers of old paint that a scraper just can't do. Better yet, it saves your wrists the duty of being up close and having all those layers coming down on you. Pole sanders or motorized sanding machines (that can be rented out) can be used with an extension that allows you to work from the floor and away from the dust and paint flying. In fact, I would recommend using a lead test kit and wear proper safety clothing ensure you or anyone else isn't getting into contact with lead. I can't stress enough you needing to make sure all of the old layers of paint are removed. If you do not, you do run the risk of repeating this project all over again. As for a primer, I would recommend using an alcohol or oil-based (also called alkyd) primer. Most primers, water or oil-based, can stick well to most surfaces, but the oil-based goes a step further and bonds better as well as provides a better moisture barrier for your ceiling. Only apply this primer after the ceilings have been sanded and cleaned down properly. Best of all, this oil-based primer will allow any paint on top of it, including water-based acrylics. Hope this helps you out, aboveaveragejoe
