Question:

EGR valve 2000 ford taurus ?

So I just got mu egr valve on my car replaced a year ago. Now it needs replacing again!? why might this be? shouldnt it last longer?

Answer:

There is no guarantee on how long anything is going to last these days. Yes ideally they should last longer but yours didn't and it needs another EGR valve. sounds like a faulty unit to me.
Everything happens for a reason.
Your EGR valve is not likely to be defective. Test it to make sure it's defective before you have it replaced. Just because a code reader or scanner reports an out of range reading, that doesn't always mean that the sensor or component is bad. All it means when a code reader or scanner reports an out of range reading it that there is a problem somewhere in that circuit. To test your EGR valve, or any other for that matter, just search the internet for how to test a ______ whatever.
Just because you have an EGR fault, doesn't mean it needs an EGR valve. A qualified shop will be able to test an EGR valve sticking or stuck. If the valve is actuating normally then the passages connecting to the EGR could be blocked, in most cases removal of the intake plenum will be required to clean these passageways. Carbon gets built up and do not allow exhaust gases to flow and when there is a restriction you get a fault code that reads egr insufficient flow. Have a quality repair shop determine if the egr valve is actually to blame, most places like firestone and the like will sell no matter if it needs it or not. Good luck, if you have other questions, edit your question.
