1. i was trying to replace a light switch. the electrical wires seem to be stuck once they are inserted inside of the light switch. i tried very hard to pull them out, but they don't move at all. oh, yes, i was using the rocker switch instead of the standard switch. i had no problem of pulling the wire out of the standard switch.are those rocker switches designed like that? 2. also, during the process, the insulating plastic tube covering the electrical wire got torn a little bit. should i be worried? or should i wrap it with those black insulating tape?thanks.
There is a second small rectangular hole next to the hole with the wire. Push in a small screwdriver and the wire will release.
Stick a screwdriver into the release holes and push the screwdriver when pulling on the wire. If this does not work just cut the wires and restrip.
You're talking about a stab-in connection right? I don't use nor do I recommend anyone use those. The problem with them is they, over time, loosen and then the wire comes out easily as it did from your old switch and the problem with that is that loose electrical connections produce heat and cause fires. For safety reasons I only use outlets and switches that have screw down connections for the wires. I've seen too many of the stab-in devices that the wires fell out of when the were pulled out for work or inspection. The only thing that holds the wire in those devices is a springy piece of metal which weakens when it heats up.
