Question:

fear of Vacuum cleaners?

is there a name for fear of vaccum cleaners? because I KNOW i have it! ever since i was an infant i would screem frickin bloody murder in my crib when my mom would run teh vacuum cleaner. when i was jsut a small child i would run from it, afraid it would suck up my toes. and now, today, at 14, i cannot STAND the loud noise they make and i do NOT put my toes in front of one. it takes me a few moments before i can even bring myself to turn it on. the bigger, louder they are, the worse my reactions. sometimes at work (i volunteer at a veterinary hospital) i have to ask one of my co-workers to do it because i will purposly busy myself just to get away from it.please, do not laugh at me. it's embarrassing enough and i just want to know the name of it.thankxx! :]

Answer:

we had a dog that had this... she would always go and run and hide under the bed... but she was a BIG dog... I mean, the bed had 2 legs up in the air and was quivering with her breathing
I believe it's Zuigerphobia. I think I have it too, I saw my moms toes get run over once and since then, ehhhhhhh. It's usually more rare in older teens and adults but no reason to be embarrassed, it's kinda cool, it makes us stand out????
Hooverphobia? j/k ... a fear of vacuum cleaners is not as rare as you may think. If you are afraid of them when they are NOT running, that might be a bigger problem. My advice is to record the sound of a vacuum until the sound does not bother you. Then try to just stay in a room where someone is using a vacuum, but where you feel safe, or your toes do anyway. After that, put y our feet on the floor as someone vacuum's around them...with shoes at first! This is a method used frequently with people having phobias such as yours. Good luck, Kristi
no name?
I'm very interested about the answer to this question
