Also, what is the name brand of the washers you had?
I've used both and I prefer the front loader. It's easier to put a load in and much easier to then transfer it to the dryer when it's done. And I've noticed too that it takes less detergent and water to get things clean. Both appliances are Whirlpool.
Front Loader because I have a large family and it makes laundry day easier, less soap, and less fab. softener. Dryer doesn't work that well, but I think it's how I separate my loads...Still learning its new...lol I own a GE front loader/dryer set I have had 2 other top loaders, but I don't remember the brands.Hot Point and Whirlpool.
Until 1 month ago, I had top loaders, and I have now made the switch. For 20 years, I had Whirlpool top loaders. So far, I definitely prefer the front loaders - less soap, less wear and tear on the clothes, better stain removal, less water (about 1/8 to 1/10 the water is used), clothes are dryer when done spinning, more interesting to watch, less overall energy usage. Clothes also have a softer feel when done being cleaned. The brand I bought is a Samsung - I got the mid-range model with silver-care technology, partly because the Lowe's where I bought it was out of the low-range model and wouldn't have any in for a month. It's kind of a risk. If you buy one, avoid Maytag (actually avoid this brand in general), buy either a Whirlpool or a Kenmore that is made in germany, not in mexico.
Top Loaders are cleaner. No rubber gasket scum/mold to clean which accumulates tons of gunk in front loaders.
