Question:

Help me choose my cpu for gaming?

Which is betterThe fx-4100 or the Phenom iix4 840 (both at default clock).3.6ghz vs 3.2ghzI heard the FX is a fluke but wanna hear your opinion. Please don't offer any other processors, I just want to know which is better. On a budget:D!My other parts are600w, 250gb hdd, radeon 6770 ddr5, 4gb ram(may upgrade to 6gb)Please tell me which you would pick and why, like pros and cons. Which is also better price/performance wise and for gaming @ 1440x900.

Answer:

The bulldozer is really not a failure per se, BUT people's expectation from the bulldozer were so high then that many were just disappointed when they found out that intel's sandy bridge just whips the bulldozers *** by a quarter mile. AMD is creating high frequency and multi core processors to keep up with intel but in the end they still get the beating of a life time. I am not a fan of either intel or AMD but lets face it, intel today is waaaaayyyyy ahead and I am hoping up until now that this year we will see a better competition from AMD. For your other parts, Get at least 500gb HDD, 250gb is a bit too small especially if your planning on gaming, That 250gb my friend would be full before you know it =P. Since RAM sticks are cheap, the ideal is 8 gb RAM (plenty enough for everything including gaming), more than 8 gb will just be utter useless. For your resolution of 1440x900, I could say that the HD6770 can let you play almost all games on high settings, your 600w is okay for that card since its power requirement is only 450w minimum. But if you could just squeeze a little more from your budget then it would be better (future proof) if you could get the Sapphire Radeon HD 6850 ($150 at newegg), this card is much faster than the HD6770 thus would give you better results in gaming. Its power requirement is 500w minimum so your 600w is also good enough.
