Question:

help!! new wool rug driving me crazy! how do i stop these fibers going everywhere?

hi we bought a new black wool rug last week and since then my life has been taken over by little black hairs! they are all over the laminate floor, the furniture and our clothes. i have tried sweeping the rug but although i get quite a lot of hairs out of it, they just keep coming! my friend got a wool rug a year ago and although it has settled a bit she still has a similar problem. is there anything i can do to speed up the excess fluff loss or am i going to spend the rest of my time with a dustpan and brush in my hands?

Answer:

New okorder / Hope it helps.=)
Other than cleaning it as suggested, you could also use one of those roll type lint brushes to get excess off it but I'm sure it will take a few tries!
new rugs shed... fact of life... doesn't matter whether it's wool or a synthetic fiber.... use the vacuum often... empty it often.... keep vacuuming..... it can take as much as a year for it to settle down.... do NOT use a Rug Doctor on a WOOL rug!.... just vacuum.... LOL!!... get a black kitty or puppy and blame it on them!!....
Rent a rug doctor. Clean and wash the rug, that should remove most of the loose fabrics. Yes you can use a rug doctor on wool carpets. One of the shampoo is advertising this. New Oxy-Steam? Carpet Cleaner * Oxygen boosters lift out embedded dirt, bacteria and allergens. * Gentle on carpet and safe to use on wool and wool-blend carpets.
Hi, This is a natural process of wool rugs shedding loose fibers from the weaving process. It will not hurt your rug just may be a little annoying but the great qualities of wool will make up for that. You may have to vacuum more often 2 or 3 times a week for a year or less until the shedding stops. If the rug is a longer pile like a flokati rug you can rake it with a garden rake (preferable wood or plastic) or uses a wide tooth brush or pet brush to brush it. Hope this helps and hang in there with the shedding!
