HELP with Car Alarm/ Keyless Entry?

I have a 97 Nissan Pathfinder i was fiddling with the remote control: took out the battery, put it back, that's it. When i tried unlocking my car, the remote control didn't work (the LED thing still turns on though). Tried to open the door with the key, worked, but the car wouldn't start. What are my options? Please, someone help me out!!!

It is caused by the real dry winter air. It doesn't happen in July because the air is warm and humid. Try getting a humidifer or boil some water on the stove top for a few hours, while your home
Rub your clothes (and hair) with a dryer sheet! I rub dryer sheets inside my coat, on my trouser sox, on my office chair. It really cuts down on static elec (I don't like the smell of the anti static spray) and sometimes, I just leave the dryer sheet on the inside shoulders of my coat to keep it working. It if falls out on the street, well it gives people something to wonder about!
I'm in a wheelchair so the rubber shoes is out. LOL I'm sure it has nothing to do with walking in socks or any of the other comments about that. My tires are rubber and it sure doesn't help with getting zapped everytime I touch something. I've been having the same problem and that is why I'm looking it up now.
I don't own one, but I live in an apartment complex and there's a fire extinguisher right outside my front door.
