Soap and water alone won't remove the paint.
2 nuts under car, and the rust may make it a pain to remove them.
It could be the heat from the boiler but it is more likely to be defective. Battery operated units are less effective than professionally installed mains alarms. Won't be CO unless the alarm is some sort of dual unit.
As I recall that gas pedal is studded to the floor board at the base and it is connected by nuts under the car. What really sucks is that it has been exposed to the road elements, and removing it has a good chance of breaking the studs off the pedal or the nuts stripping. If you want to remove it do it, if it breaks there a lot of repo parts out there where you can get a pedal good luck and lucky dude for having the 67. hang on to it as long as you can
