Question:

How did lightning kill my TV?

After a loud crack of thunder and a strike of lightning filled the sky the other night my TV went bright white and shut off-(For Good) It wouldn't turn on at all. It was on a surge protector strip along with the DVD, VCR, PS2 and stereo. All of these items are connected. And the cable from the wall runs to VCR. So how did just the TV get hit. This is actually the second time the same thing has happened to us. So I want to know how this is possible. All the other components work fine.

Answer:

Is there any chance that a small amount of dust is getting on the heating coils? If not, you may want to have your furnace looked at, especially the wiring. Good luck!
not a thing..may add a good book to read. My part of the world, San Francisco Bay area, never has major snow storms..or any snow for that matter. we have a light dusting on the mountains surrounding the valley, as low as 2000 feet, but it will disappear in a day or so..It is much colder than normal in the mid 40s instead of the low to mid 60s..so we think we are freezing to death..I know we haven't been to New England in the winter, and have no complaints..today is not a spare the air day so the fireplace is going..Merry Christmas.
This may sound very strange, there may be some other 'being; in your house trying to alert you to something. Think about it, fire alarms alert you, alarm cocks wake you? However, I would still recommend replacing your fire alarms since they are 10 years old plus. My auntie found out the hard way. She had alarms in her Dining room, breakfast room, and one upstairs. It was sheer luck she survived when a candle in the dining room started to set fire to the curtain. THE ALARM DID NOT SOUND. She was in the living room when she smelled burning. I recommend placing at least one alarm downstairs, and one upstairs. Also, buy a fire extinguisher.
