Answer:

When you say exterior walls it is somewhat confusingUnless you remove the drywall you can't insulate from the inside that I'm aware ofYou can do this from the outside if it is a Frame/siding houseGo to building supply/or home improvement have dimensions of rooms, they will figure how many bags you will need of insulationSome places loan you the hopper if you buy a minimum amount Or rent them reasonably pricedYou will need a drill Drill bit (size ?) Masks Gloves Plugs to plug up holes At least 2 or 3 helpers Don't be afraid to ask a place like Lowes or Home DepotThat is the business they are in, and most are well educated on the subjectsGood Luck! PS It's never dumb to ask questions, it's a sign of intelligence, because you want to learnone to drill one to fill and plug one to fill the hopper
Cheapest Way To Insulate
try sprinkling in some baking soda and leave overnight, this should get rid of any smells and keep them at bay if done once or twice a weekAlso make sure the lids are left off when not in use.
Give some thought to wall hangings.I've seen some that were essentially a picture on an acrylic blanketI would get 1 foam boards, wrap them in a blanket and shove them against the wall.
since you rent there really isn't much you can do, maybe 1 inch foam board bought from lowes or home depotIt comes in 4 ft, x 8 ft sheets and does provide some insulating value but not much.It is a place to start, I would use some double sided tape the damage to your wall will be very minimal at the worstWhen spring comes you can take it down and return it to the place you bought it and get your money back(I know morally not right but you need something to help keep you warm and since it is not your house, I would not spend any money on it)If it were me I would tell my landloard to fix the wall, It is his resonsability to make sure you have a safe and warm place to live, ie.heatsince you can't keep you apartment warm then there is a problemYour landloard should correct this issue one way or another
