Question:

How do I get the wrinkles out of my bridesmaid dress?

I have a taffeta/polyester bridesmaid dress with several obvious creases in it. Can I remove them by steaming it? I am afraid to iron it.

Answer:

Either the caliper is frozen from corrosion, or the flex brake line is crushed/clogged.
this is going to sound like an odd answer. but instead of directly steaming it you can hang it in the bathroom while you are taking a shower. the light steam and humitity will loosen the creases so you can just gently flatten them with your hand. this is a safe way to ensure it won't burn.
Try lubricating the sliding calipher. Just take out the bolt that holds the calipher in place, put some wheel bearing grease on it then put it back in. Put a small ammount of grease on the bottom of the calipher where it slides.
Take the dress to the drycleaners and have them steam the wrinkles out. Ask them to package it one a hanger (provide a covered hanger to avoid shoulder creases) in tissue paper for the trip to the wedding. In the car either hang the dress from the hook above the door in the back or lay it gently on top of the stuff in the trunk giving it ample space. Look up a 1 hour cleaners near the destination just in case the dress needs a spruce up after the trip and give yourself a bit of extra time to get it done. Look at Wal-mart near the irons you can find a portable do it yourself steamer for under $20.00 Get a bottle of distilled water (found at any grocery store) as it won't have the mineral smell of tap water and won;t have any impurities to leave any slight discoloration. If the wrinkle is very stubborn you may have to iron. Set the iron on a low setting get white tissue paper (non-waxed) place a sheet under the cloth and a sheet over the cloth gently and slowly ease the wrinkles out ironing on the reverse side of the fabric. To avoid Iron fabric shine
Follow the care label. Most garments can be lightly pressed inside out using a press cloth and a cool iron. If in doubt your local dry cleaner should offer a pressing/steaming service. Do NOT iron taffeta as it will mark. Never iron a gown on the front side. Do not use direct steam on garments with beadwork or decoration and always test on an inconspicuous area first.
