Question:

How do I keep the electric plugs from my outside Christmas display dry?

I was wondering how do I keep them from getting wet from the snow? I want to keep them dry before it snows later tonightany suggestions?

Answer:

A fun problem! I would try using some reasonably thick conductive metal (steel or copper sheeting?) so that it would not be too resistiveThen use a dielectric sheet that is as thin as possible but completely resistant (tissue paper?)You should be able to measure infinite resistance between both sides and also a non-zero capacitanceIt doesn't have to be that big in area but I bet the dielectric layer has to be very thinIt looks like there is some good info about home made capacitors on the webSee below:
Use a quarter wavelength inductorThe distributed capacitance should furnish the same function.
If they're outdoor rated plugs they'll be fineYou might want to wrap them in duct tape or put a small plastic baggie over them, then tape them shutWe've done that before.
