I have no experience working in ceramics, however, I am interested in learning to make decorative bells out of clay and using my own home oven to fire them. Can‘t find any info. on the web. HELP!!!!!
the bells that you have probably seen before are made by pouring liquid ceramic clay into a plaster mold. this kind of clay cannot be fired in you home oven, but must be fired in a kiln that can reach temperatures many hundreds of degrees hotter than your oven can reach. look for ceramic studio in the yellow pages for your area. they may already have the bells ready to decorate and will fire them in their kiln for you after you decorate them. if your heart is set on making bells in your home oven, you can use polymer clay and shape the bells by hand, but they won't be symmetrical and they probably won't ring
