Actually not my car. I received a 1994 Toyota MR2 rear clip (car cut in half) for a motor swap. I‘m having trouble removing the two 32mm axle nuts and I need to do this before I proceed. The clip came without a strut/spring combination on either side so if I go to use the breaker bar the hub just dangles all over.I have been told I need an impact gun. First thing first.1. Not sure what else I would need other than the impact gun. I know I would need an air compressor, but I‘m not sure if I need any extras to make the impact gun fully functional.2. Of course the work is being done in my garage, and I was anticipating just using the breaker bar, but it seems impossible that way so I have no clue how else I would go about removing them.3. Cost is an issue.Any links for an impact gun or air compressor at a reasonable price but can also be sure to get the job done it would be appreciated because I am stumped and not sure of the first place to look.
i used a socket, breaker bar, and a piece of 3' pipe placed on top of the breaker bar to extend the handle a add leverage. You might also heat up the nut to release the loctite from the threads.
You only need the motor and not the axles right? If that is the case just cut them out with a sawzall. Another option is to unbolt the lower control arm and the ball joints and remove the whole thing with the axles and then with the assembly on the ground or in a vise, use the breaker bar to remove the nuts.
If you just need the engine, just unbolt the trans-axle from the engine. If however you need both, then you'll need a large pipe wrench to hold the other side of the axle while you loosen the axle nut. If the rotors and calipers are still intact, try inserting a large straight screw driver in one of the slots in the outer edge of the rotor. By doing this, the screw driver will keep the rotor/axle from rotating and allow you to loosen the axle nut with the rachet and 32mm socket. Using a section of pipe slipped over the handle of the rachet will give you more leverage.
