Question:

How do you adjust the Kickdown Cable?

I have a Chevy 350v8It's not shifting when it should be. It's not shifting up at all. (its not a damaged transmission)-Where is the kickdown cable?-How do i adjust it to shift the trasmission up when the RPM reaches a certain place?Right now it has problems shifting up through gears at HIGH RMP.Could it be something else? I just changed the tranny fluid and filter.

Answer:

The cable may have slack in it when you are off the throttle, but the kick down should be actuating at 3/4 throttle and be fully actuated before full throttle.
Listen ok? And I want best answer EVEN if someone is much better at explaining it to you. Just use there more useful information still give me best answer ok? Wakawaka? lol ((O_o)) Ok, here we go. The kick down cable is attached to your throttle. Looks like a cruise control cable. Depending on what year this motor is.Will depend on whether or not you have 2 cables or 1. Either or.your kick down should be located on the BOTTOM of your throttle. There should be an access hole on a (most likely) black bracket holding the cable. This is how you adjust your kick down WITH YOUR CAR OFF pull your throttle all the way back (Like flooring it) Stick a screw driver into that Access hole on the bracket. Apply enough pressure for the cable to release. That will release the tension on the kick down cable. And your shifting will be MUCH smoother more on time. Honestly that easy. If someone told you your kick down was not adjusted correctly I am assuming you are having a very rough time getting your transmission to shift right? Again, Because I don't know the year of your vehicle. IF this kick down does not fix the problem, Have the solenoids in your transmission checked. (90's model transmission) I really hope this works out for you man. Good Luck ((O_o))
was it shifting ok before oil/filter change? you may have wrong filter,,,,[happened to me,,,wrong filter impeded flow causing it to shift at 3K rpm you dont know enough to fix it.[i can tell by the question] let a pro look at it.a tranny will ruin fast like that,,,real fast
The kick down is just that when you step hard on the gas it kicks the tranny down a gear. Check for a loose or broken vacuum line to the modulator valve or the modulator itself.
