Question:

How do you lift an alert on your credit report?

i am trying to buy a car and a have a fraud alert placed on my credit report due to problems in the past. How do i lift the alert just so i can purchase the car applying for a loan and then put the alert back on

Answer:

Contact the same department at the credit bureau who put it on and have it lifted. Bear in mind it may take a few days.
Why on earth would you want to remove the alert? The whole purpose of it is to inform the potential creditor that someone is trying to steal your identity. It forces the creditor to take a few extra steps to verify your identity. In many cases, it tells them to call a phone number that you supplied and verify that you are authorizing the credit. I had this same thing happen to me a few years ago and I put up an alert on my report. When I was getting credit they called the number and my cell phone rang while I was at the desk.
If you only have a fraud alert on your credit file, you don't need to do anything. Car dealers/lenders will still be able to pull your credit report. Fraud alerts are only good for 90 days. If you freeze your credit, you have to have the freeze removed and then put back. Freezing your credit is permanent till you unfreeze it.
