Forget the studs. Just buy some good quality winter tires and carry chains. The majority of Interstate 90 from Seattle to Montana will be clear of ice and snow, and there's only three mountain passes you need to be concerned about. Just slow down when driving in winter conditions and you'll make it easily.
Cleaning the inside may not be the answer. The projection bulbs may be getting dim. How old is the set? I wouldn't take anything apart that you aren't comfortable getting back together. If you can open it easily, a vacuum cleaner would get the dust out. Be careful of any mirrors as they may be first surface. In other words, the reflective material on the front side where it is easy to scratch it. Also be careful about bumping things and maybe knocking them out of alignment. As a service shop and see if they think it's something you could handle.
