one of the wires snapped on my boat hoist. I purchased a new one, but am unsure of how to replace the wire. I am not good at things like this. Is it easy? if not what is a reasonable amount to pay someone to do the repair?
You definitely want to hire a Certified Electrical Contractor to do that, one spark or fouled connection and you could loose dock and vessel. Yes it is rather easy, I have assisted and installed a few, when they fail, I contact the Purchasing Agent and ask for help. You want to be certain that all wires are up to code and that way if it does spark up, catch fire, or just not work, well, you are covered , I hope. I do not know where you live, I think Electricians Hourly rates are about $90 an hour or so for on site repair work. New York could be triple that, Texas could be $25 either way. Figure all wire is good, up to code, and just a connection or circuit is completed, figure one or two hours, always get an estimate and always get a reference and always always always get a backup hand winch to operate the hoist with cause those things fail at the most inopportune times.
