I know axles are cheap to replace on a Honda but how much are they for a 1990 Camry? Car ran up on a curb and bent the right front axle. Need a guestimate for parts and labor, please.
first off, I doubt seriously that you bent an axle and that's it. I mean I replace axles on vehicles all the time due to CV joint failures. They are literally centered in the hub assembly, for you to bend an axle, there just has to be damage to the wheel lower control arm and or strut housing. The only way it didn't damage any of that is if you JUST hit the axle. Even then, you are still looking at other likely damage. BUT to answer the question of how much to replace, a rebuilt axle assembly is around $125 retail and should take no more than an hour to replace. (assuming nothing else is wrong) So you'd be lighter in the wallet to the tune of around $200 give or take.
when doing drum brakes I install the spring before i install the adjuster. This allows the shoes to pull closer together and then with the adjuster screwed all the way in I use a small pry bar to spread one side of the shoes apart and insert the adjuster.
From a parts store probably $65-85. If you have a shop replace expect to pay 40-60% markup on parts plus an hours labor ($50-75).
If you only have one brake taken apart, you can refer to the other one to see how it fits back together. If they are both apart, get to an auto parts store and ask to see a diagram of the drum brakes. They should have a computer monitor showing the parts and the location, and they should be able to explain the replacement procedure
camry's are fwd, and as such do not have an axle. they have half shafts. these are not that expensive, the expensive bit is the cv joints on either end of it. if you've bent that, i'd also be checking the strut and other suspension bits for being bent, and the steering rack.
