First of all there smoke alarms not smoke detectors smoke alarms are residential. Second of all you do not need special smoke alarms there are some people that claim you need 300$ smoke alarms however that is totally unnecessary only get new smoke alarms every ten years. Is there a constant green light on each smoke alarm if so then it is getting house power. Lastly because of all the low battery problems you have I would recommend getting ten year nine volt batteries for each smoke alarm they last ten years so then you can just replace the smoke alarms and the batteries together by the way the reason we replace smoke alarms every ten years is they contain radioactive metals that decay therefor causing loss in sensitivity over time.
This may be too heavy for them to allow for carry on luggage so you might like to weight it to check. Personally, this sounds like too much for Germany at this time of year but as you said, you like to overpack. I just take a few basics and buy new clothes when I reach my exotic destination :-) Wouldn't take make up either it's just pointless when natural beauty is always so fine.
