I read something about an aluminum blanket but I don‘t understand
The highly skilled team were out to put measures into place to prevent the fire spreading outwith a boundary. From what I've gathered from the news, the wind direction changed for the worst which resulted in a large flame chasing them down. May they rest in peace.
It will take an autopsy to say. They either died from asphyxiation, as the fire used up the available oxygen, or they burned to death. The aluminum blankets they carry do reflect heat, and trap oxygen beneath it, but they can only stand up to heat and flames for a limited time. It is truly tragic that so many fine people have died while trying to preserve others' lives and property.
The fire spread faster than they could run. It's just that tragically simple. No protective gear can save a person from air so hot it literally burns a person's lungs and flames so hot enough they can and do melt steel.
