I agree with galloppal- a well trained horse beats a spastic nutjob every time. I've ridden several well trained high performance horses that get jazzed up and run like the dickens but would stop on a dime with a whispered 'whoa' from their rider. That's the difference between the best horsemen and women and those ones that just think they are the greatest. To answer your question, I ride in a rubber mouth jointed d-ring whenever I do any serious work, but when I'm putzing around I go bareback with a halter and lead. AND I can jump my hotblooded Arab, run barrels and poles with my QH and do a dressage test in nothing more than a halter. Hmm, I must have some dull, deadbroke critters I suppose. :)
