Question:

how to get rid of smoke smell from my sofa?

a sofa have been in a smoker's house for about 5 years now. And i really need to get rid of that smell ASAP with out spending too much money. Please help!

Answer:

Lots of luck. Nothing works. I am a smoker and I would never sell or give any of my upholstered furniture to friends. The smell is inside the furniture, and will never go away.
I bought a used sofa from a co-worker a while ago with the same problem. I just kept spraying it down top, bottom, sides with Febreeze, and it did eventualy go away. I always thought it might have gone faster if I had a covered porch or garage I could have left it set in and air out also.
I did this with a leather sleeper sofa once. I don't think I'd try it with a fabric one; there is just too much fiber to trap the smell. First, I left it outside in the hot summer sun for several days to air out (sunlight also kills odors). Then I pulled out all the stuffing from the cushions, sprayed them with Febreeze, let it dry in the sun, repeated the Febreeze bath twice more, and restuffed the cushions. Even still, there is a faint residual odor. You may never be able to get enough of the smell out of it, and if anyone in your household has allergies or asthma, this sofa may affect their breathing.
You can get rid of the smell of cigarette smoke with White Vinegar. Vinegar destroys cigarette smell on a molecular level. It doesn't just cover it up, like air fresheners do. It destroys it. Pour undiluted White Vinegar into a spritzer bottle and spray the sofa with this. You might have to repeat the spraying a few times to completely eliminate the smell. Yes, vinegar stinks, too, but unlike cigarette smell, it dissipates within hours. And once it does, the cigarette smell will be gone, too. -
