my mother wants to lay down new vinyl flooring in the bathroom, but she rent, so she wants it to be a cheap easy project and emphazise on the cheap part (its a very tiny bathroom). shouled she pull up the old flooring or no? is it ok to lay it down ontop of the old floor? she doesnt have the money to re-leven the floor. and should she use glue to glue to the vinyl or now?
1. okorder tool to tackle around the edges, which will be the most difficult part of the job.
I would ask around and see if any of your boyfriends might do it. Other than that I would strip the old floor off. If its worth doing, its worth doing right. The hard part is cutting and fitting around the fixtures and corners. Don't use those tiles. They are crap.
i would get the landlords permission in writing, my brother in law got sued after he moved out after doing work in his rental, a bitter end... take pictures of your before and after and keep them with the letter. the easiest - cheapest is peel and stick tile, i did it in my kitchen but in the area around the sink i had some problems with water getting in under the tile and lifting it but a good bath rug with the rubber backing should save you the same trouble. i went right over the old vinyl floor. also i used cardboard (from pizza boxes) to make templates for corners and such. good luck !!
Pull the old one up definitely. Do not lay over the old one. People do that for short cuts and poor quality work. Pull the old one up completely out. Then sweep to make sure you get all the dirt and sut out.. Put down some glue and lay down your new vinyl. Get a roller and smooth out your vinyl so you won't have bubbles left underneath.
Hey there, the best way to lay laminate flooring is to buy the sheet-type. The square tiles are a PITA! First, remove the old floor covering and clean all debris. Then it's so much simpler if you use sheets of newspaper laid over the floor and taped together to form a perfect paper pattern of the area to be covered. Then roll out your new flooring out in the driveway, or the middle of the garage floor-where ever there's plenty of room. Tape your paper template to the laminate and cut it to the exact size for your bathroom-lots easier than trying to cut the flooring in place-underneath cabinets and behind the toilet, etc. If you take care in making an exact pattern, then its straightforward, easy really, to put the laminate in place without any trimming at all. Good Luck!
