Answer:

If you wanted to make barbells, you get a five gallon bucket and a five foot piece of pipe. fill the bucket to a pre measured line, with concrete one end at a time, 1/2 full bucket weighs about 30lbs, which would give you a 60lbs barbell. AS you get stronger, put the weight back in the bucket and then fill to the top with concrete, for 60lbs each end, for a 120lbs barbell

You'll need; 1 1/2 black iron pipe x 4 ft L., 40 lb bag Quik-Krete, (2) one gallon milk jugs Cut a hole in the side of each milk jug to fit the pipe Insert the pipe in the holes and at least half way through the empty jugs Mix the cement and pour half in to each jug and let set over night Cut the plastic jugs off You now have a dumb-bell to use, but, you'll have to weigh it to see what you are lifting
Empty milk jugs, fill with sand or dirt and screw the cap back on for dead weights. If you can afford cement, (about $5 per bag for ready mix, just add water) fill them with cement and stick a pipe in the jug necks and let harden. You might want to set the jug on a scale as you fill it, so you know exactly how much each end of the bar weighs. You don't want one end weighing more than the other end. By the way, doing push ups with your sisters sitting on your back can injure the back by slipping a disc and tearing the cushion between the disc. All of her weight is on a few vertebrae instead of being distributed evenly on your back. To make the push up harder, put your feet up on a step so your head is down. That way your arms are lifting more of your body weight.
If you can get ahold of a bag of Portland Cement and a bag of sand, you could probably find everything else around the house or contributions from your neighbors. The portland cement is about $10 and the sand $4. You will have enough to do about 75-80 lbs of weights. If you can do the $10 and $4, then just get a bag of premix concrete which is only about $4.50 for a 70-80 lb. bag. Problem with stuff is that it has gravel mixed in with it and for doing small stuff like dumbells, the gravel will kind of have to be picked out-the big pcs. Just find anything that you can use for handle material such as an old broom handle and cut it into like 20 pcs. Then find old milk containers or jugs that you can fill and mix the concrete inside them and stick the handles in the ends of them to set-up overnite. That is the easiest way I know to make cheap dumbells.
