I Have A ESL 429C Smoke Detector, it's hardwired and has no test button so how do i test it? It's wired to my alarm system.
I think the writing would sound better if it was styled more dramatically and conversationally the story currently reads as if you're just trying to get the facts of the story down, not creating a world and drawing your reader into it. If you want to add detail make it details that support the imagery, not just details that get in the way of the story, or details just for details' sake. Here's my rewrite of the first paragraph: Wellington is a tiny town, where very little happens; and the pace of life is as slow as it was fifty years ago, when I first came here as a young lady. It's a peaceful place, and in fifty years, there's been very little here in the way of surprises. Perhaps that's why I've become settled here, complacent in the town's simple quiet and security. As I drive down the main street to the bank, just as I've done for fifty years, in the town I've known most of my life, it's no wonder that I don't really expect any surprises. It's really no wonder that I take my eyes off the road for a moment to check my lipstick, and, seeing it needs attention, I reach across to the glovebox to find my favourite, Red Velvet 1477. It's then, as I look up, that I realise that today is no ordinary day; for I have crossed into the other lane, and I'm heading into the path of a fully-laden semitrailer, its horn blaring. It's almost surreal: the whole world seems to freeze; time seems to stand still. My life flashes before my eyes
