in space heaters and toaster ovens and stuff.is it the same quartz as crystal quartz?
Hi Simon,..You do not usually find quartz by digging in the dirt, But rather you need to go to where you have exposed, bare rock, like in the mountains . then you might find quartz veins in the rock,.Quartz is very common, world wide,..but gold baring quartz is not so common,..Gold is usually found in quartz that also has iron,.Iron is brown, rusty looking,.The ancients called iron, the mother of gold,..Good luck,..Tecop Jack.
find some gravel (in a road, river, bed, driveway, parking lot, gravel pit, etc.) you are bound to find quartz.
Hi Simon, If you can get your parents to take a little trip to 'The Crystal Caves' you will find LOTS of minerals that you will like. It's less than an hour from the airport. It makes for a great visit - the underground cave is fantastic. If you can find yourself in area that has a lot of gravel (gravel road, field, along the edges of roads, walk along the bank of a river or stream and look at the stones and rocks, etc) you may be able to find smaller rocks that contain grainite, quartz, feldsbar, mica etc. These minerals are quite common. Any old gravel pits around you? Any area that has rocks will probably have what you are looking for but do try to get your parents to take you to Crystal Cave. You can actually pan for gold if you take a trip to the Tyrconnell Historic Gold Mine. Panning for gold is not only fun but what you find is yours to take home. Any rocks in that area might just have a bit of gold in them. The rocks are just thrown away because the amount of gold in the rocks is too small and it is more expensive to get the gold out of the rock then the gold is worth. Hope this helps you out a bit.
