Question:

i broke the cv axle in my 99 jeep cherokee?

its a regular cherokee NOT a grand cherokee and i was trying to figure out what years i could pull 1 off of at the junk yard that would still work. i know that alot of parts from 84-01 will fit it but idk about the cv. thanks

Answer:

get a new cv axle . they are about 65 bucks and are new. it took me just about 1 hour to change one out on my 94 grand cherokee limited 4x4. not hard at all. don't waste your time getting one at a junkyard. i didn't and as soon as i changed it i went rock crawling.
your discs that are inside your transmission are screwed. you may need a new transmission. i am going through the same thing right now.
T-bus, you can buy a new one for 69.00, why risk buying a corroded one from the junk yard. If you do take someones opinion here, are they telling you the truth ? You will find out when it comes time to install this.
5 hours is a reasonable estimate for replacing both cv axles. Dealerships and some shops do labor estimates from a book that is based on factory times using the correct tools and procedures. A mechanic that is experienced in changing them and there are no problems like rusted/stripped bolts might do it quicker. A mechanic that hasn't done them as often or has problems with rust etc may take longer That is why it is called an estimate.
Your transmission needs an overhaul, no doubt about it.
