For all the confused people out there P0171+P0174 are system lean codes banks-1+2 and if it is a ford you really need to have a scan tool to properly diagnose this problem! You need to see the BARO and LONG TERM FUEL TRIM pids to determine if it is a MAF problem OR a vacuum leak, Although it is almost a given if it is a 4.6 or 5.4 to check the PCV elbow on the back of the intake for a deteriorated hose! good luck. Edit to Brutl you talk a lot of smack for a guy with barely 10 Years under his belt!
Just so you know what you are talking about the SES light, which is the Service Engine Soon light, does NOT throw any codes whatsoever. It comes on to tell you that your car should be getting an oil change or something along that line. The CEL, Check Engine Light throws codes when you have a problem. If you fixed the problem, then all you have to do is disconnect the negative battery cable for about a half hour and then put it back on. If the problem that caused the CEL to come on is fixed, the light will not come on when you start the car
