When I disconnect the hot wire from the smoke detector the circuit still works and when I disconnect the ground wires the lights are shut off in both rooms. So I check the circuit breaker and nothing was a blown there s no GFI on the circuit but when I reconnected the ground words everything came back on. I don t know much about electricity and I don t want to get shocked and I need to hook up a new smoke detector can somebody tell me what to do
If I understand this correctly, the current GFCI protection is IN the Panel Box. It would be unwise and unnecessary to change the outlets to GFCI when you have a GFCI breaker in the box.
