i have a smart card reader with contact smart card .How shud i configure it to be detected by windows XP.?

I have a set of contact smart card reader and secure smart card which was used for windows 2000.wen i tried for window xp,it is not detecting the reader.can u suggest wat all changes do i need to make to interface with window xp.any reference to msgina.dll? Pl dont suggest to buy a new set of smart card reader coz it is my project to make ithe old one work in window xp.

I am not sure what do you mean by a contact card reader. But basically if you have a card reader that is not being recognized by Windows XP first I would try go to the website of the manufacturer of that card reader. Look for Support, and see if they have the driver for Windows XP there, download it, install it, reboot, and see if it works for you. Sounds to me like all you need is the right driver(s) for Windows XP and it should work fine. And no, I have no idea what is msgina.dll if you're getting a message that pops up saying something about that file, maybe that's what it is, something wrong with the driver for your card reader. - Go download the latest driver(s) for Windows XP at the manufacturer's website. RTFM :-) make sure you have windows xp with service pack 2 installed ****Do Not connect the reader before you do the following****** Before connecting the reader, you must install the smartcard driver and the reader utilities for Winxp Go to Control Panel Open Administrative Tools Open Services Open Smart Card Services Then set it to Start Automatically then plug in your smart card reader. For a serial port smart card reader you have to restart the system.
