Try a hoover tempo they do a pretty good job on carpeting, it's biggest flaw is that it has a short hose but for about $60 it's a good deal

Hello. The best answer I can think of the give you. Is good tools are cheap and cheap tools are not good. Basically you get what you pay for. You may want to check consumers reports as to the best vacuum in your price range. Good luck
