Spin it to the right atleast one full turn, then stop at your first number. Then spin left pass your second number once, and stop on it the next time around. Then spin right straight to your third number.
You can park as far away as you want.
Any alarm can be defeated. So you want the criminal to pick another car. An alarm with a easily visible flashing red LED, alarm warning stickers on the driver and passenger windows and a Club steering wheel lock will deter criminals. Most breakins are to steal something in the vehicle (sunglasses, ipod) so they just break the window. So keep the interior empty looking. Don't be too worried though. Honda's are much more likely to be stolen than Toyota.
For my lock, I turn it counterclockwise to my first number, then clockwise to my second number, and then counterclockwise again. I'm pretty sure that's how all the locks work.
