They are called Snap Buttons. But it's a bear to pull up a website because all that comes up are buttons you would put on a shirt. Go to the other answers link for Thomas Net, click on it and you will see the Snap Buttons featured there. You can buy these made of nylon or delrin at swimming pool supply companies. They are popular for attaching long handles to brooms in order to reach into deep swimming pools. They break every year or two because of the chlorine and the sun. That's why swimming pool supply shops have them on hand. Somewhere like Leslie's Pool Supply would work.
