Question:

If you had a blown engine rod, would your engine light come on?

The noise isn‘t like wow, thats gonna wake up the neighbors but, it‘s noticable. and I just bought it, I hope it can be fixed.

Answer:

Not necessarily. The check engine light primarily monitors emission system functions.
not necessarily. something as serious as that would just seize the engine. if the engine ran too long w/o oil it probably did all the damage that is internal not an easy fix. pistons could get stuck in the bore so on.
A check engine light usually means one of two things - you have a problem with your emission system or there is a problem with the engine computer, sometimes major engine failures such as blown engine rods, overheating or running with no oil will not trigger the check engine light.
