I'm not aware of any states that require fire extinguishers in private homes, but it is always a good idea to have one on each floor and one in the kitchen. As a side note, some states such as Texas and California have banned the sale of certain mini-fire extinguishers.
I think part of the reason she's in the bathroom so long after an argument is BECAUSE you sit by the door. If she's locking herself away, she likely wants to be away from you, and people in general. So it's not helpful for her to have you RIGHT OUTSIDE THE DOOR. When she runs off, give her space. Let her know that you two can talk about it when she feels alright to talk, and that she doesn't have to talk if she doesn't want to. Four years is plenty of time to figure that out. It's also plenty of time to know what sets her off, and how to not fight to the point where you make her cry. If you're actively doing this (which I imagine you would be, if you've been with her for that long. I would find it hard to believe if you DIDN'T know what you do or say that makes her cry) then you should really stop. That aside, it sounds like she has some emotional issues, or some other sort of raw nerve. This could probably improve with professional counseling.
