im interested in hunting with a muzzle loader and i have never done it before. i have hunted with bow, rifle, shotgun all the other stuff and have been hunting for 12+ years. but i have never gone muzzle loader hunting. so what do i need to get and im wanting to keep it as inexpensive as possible. no one in my family hunts muzzleloader and none of my friends do either. so im starting from scratchany help would be appreciatedthanks

Answer:

Some thing else I'll throw on beeds pile....a flintlock can go off...even if there is no powder in the pan! had it happen once , scared the hell out of me and thank God it was pointed in a safe direction! I was checking my spark as I was dropping the c0ck on the frizzen that was empty and BOOM! WOW! that 'll put the fear in ya!
CVA Optima is sold in a kit with everthing you need. Check it out. I have been using mine for 6 years and love it.
50 cal in line rifle is very accurate in the 100 yard range. possibles pouch for caps, powder and bullets. a good cleaning kit
Above info is good. I would stick with a percussion cap. The flint is worthless in the rain are dew or damp areas. Walk through some damp brush and your gun is worthless. Percussion is the way to go and much safer as the above people stated about flints. You tube is a great source for lots of info. There are tons of videos on muzzle loaders.
For hunting deer size game the .50 cal is better than the smaller calibers. As you get into this the good folks here in the hunting section can help a lot. But beware of some idiots who are clueless and may give dangerous advice. Black powder unlike modern powder is an explosive. All it take is one ember still glowing in the bore from the last shot and when you pour in the next powder charge; VOOOM!=burnt hand.
