Pillar drills usually have an adjustable table for placing the work you are about to drill onto so make sure this is at the correct height before you start drilling. Ensure that you have set the drilling speed correctly. You don`t want a 25mm drill whipping round at 1200rpm. Large and awkwardly shaped objects that are to be drilled should be clamped to the table or held in a machine vice which is clamped to the table. ALWAYS wear safety glasses when drilling anything. If you are wearing loose clothing roll up your sleeves to prevent them getting caught in the drill. Also make sure the adjustable table is tightened up properly. I have seen these slip down onto peoples feet during drilling. Very painful and dangerous.
