Question:

Is it possible to use my laptop to control media player running on another machine?

I want to control the media player of my desktop pc with my laptop which is networked by LAN cable. is it possible to do so? if so how is it possible. please help me.

Answer:

Another way would be to install a small web server for local use and set it up for php support. Download one of the many scripts to be found for controlling media via the web. i've included a link to show you there are tons of different ways to do this via php. I find it to be allot more secure then Remotes.
yes there's an option called windows messenger(I saw it in XP) using that my friend took control of my pc but i gave him permission to do that. Unless you get a permission from your desktop you cant control it.
it wud become a lot easier if u are using Windows Vista.it has a feature of meeting space allowing remote desktop PC access!! u can not only access your media player.but each and everything u want!!
You could remote desktop into your desktop PC with the inbuilt windows remote assistance software. But an easier alternative would be by using LogMeIn, which is an online equivalent that lets you control PCs over the internet. It's a matter of signing up, setting up and using it.
Try a program called RealVNC. VNC is virtual network control. You can control the desktop of another pc from your laptop. You need to install the realvnc server on the pc you want to control and the realvnc listener on the laptop. You get the ip addy of the desktop by hovering over the realvnc icon on the taskbar. You then open the listener on the laptop and put this ip in. The RealVNC software is free and has no malware. I use it to control all my pcs, start and stop cameras, monitor my front door, etc. EDIT: dont waste your time with online programs like logmein!!
