Question:

Is my Seiko Quartz desk clock (999.9 35.4oz) made of real gold? How do I know if it's Seiko or real gold?

I'm not sure whether or not this desk clock is made of real gold. I did a bit of research on the internet, and I found a web site that stated that there's usually a scale of 1-999 or .1-.999. If this is the case, then the 999.9 should imply real gold. And if it's 35.4 oz of GOLD, then I have a lot of gold in my hands. How do I know if it's real gold (without having to purchase things to test it) or if it's a real Seiko clock?

Answer:

Because quartz is SiO2, silica, and silica is part of ALL rocks. It's just the proportions of silica and Fe/MgO3 minerals in rocks that differ Dr.
