Im wondering if old utility poles you see on the side of old train tracks is copper?,please help!
NO! or someone else would of ripped it off by now, if thats what you were thinking.
**** you both its on my land you ******* greenhorns.
Normal overhead electrical wires are aluminum conductor steel reinforced (acsr). Really short spans could be aluminum. Aluminum stretches, so it is not used much. Really old wire 70 years old can sometimes be copper, but it will look green and thin from the ground. All of this wire is hot, several thousand volts, so do not mess with it. 100 years ago, they ran telegraph wires along side of the rail road. And those were copper.
No it has been aluminum for a long time on high power lines! Copper weighs too much to make long runs like that, and would pull the poles and insulators down, so they use aluminum it is lightweight, and does a good job of carrying power. Also if you don't know if it is still live, and I know you don't own the wire, so if you take it without permission you are stealing, and risking your life at the same time, don't do it for a few bucks! You are looking at jail time or hospital time, or both, or end up dead! Nice try you copper thief!
