Question:

Is there anything I should do to the engine of my Mitsubishi eclipse after I added my cold air intake.?

I recently put a AEM cold air intake on my 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT, and it‘s not running the way it used to. It chugs a lot and I heard that it is getting too much air. Is there anything I can do to my engine to make my intake work?

Answer:

Just makes sound louder deeper axhaust, and maybe a little less back pressure
Needs tuning, but without a larger exhaust it would be a waste, your drawing in more air but its restricted from escaping as quickly through the stock exhaust.
It sucks that all these cold air intake companies claim you can get a big increase in HP from just installing the intake. You will get a little boost but I don't think it will be that noticeable. There is other mods you are going to have to do to get a noticeable increase in HP. So in short you can't just throw on a cold air intake and hope for a 5 to 10 HP increase because its not going to happen. There is other reasons to put on a cold air intake though. Looks nice, sounds cool, a bit better gas mileage, already added for other mods in the future, ect
Chances are it's not getting too much air. How is it 'chugging'? Somewhat of a vague description. If your vehicle is having a hard time idling, then there's a better chance that a sensor, like a MAF or MAP sensor, hasn't been plugged back in, there's a leak between the sensor and the throttle body. A vacuum hose from the intake manifold/throttle body/intake pipe was not corrected correctly. You won't need tuning for only installing an intake. You maybe got 3-5 more horsepower from it, definitely not enough to spend $300+ to tune the engine. You could try taking off the negative battery post for a minute or so, that might help reset the computer into learning some new fuel maps after a while, however, it may take a mile of driving, or 100 miles of driving. During this phase of closed loop (what the ECU goes through) it will 'learn' how you drive; old person like or like you have your foot to the floor all the time. However you drive, that's how the computer will 'teach' itself. You don't need to do anything whatsoever to your engine in specific for this kind of modification. The only thing that you'll need to do is to double check the installation. Make sure that you've followed the directions exactly on AEM's website, or have them e-mail or snail mail you some.
well get more flow that means more hp and and bad *** sound 2
