I have a .50 Knight LK-93 Wolverine muzzle-loader. I sighted in the other day and achieved abnormally tight (1.8!) groups at 100 yards. I've had the rifle 3 years and never had groups like this(Even with the same load). I was just wondering if anybody else has had this happen to them.I used Hornady XTP-MAG 240 grain .45 caliber with the Black Sabots. 100 grains of Pyrodex loose powder.
I have a Knight LK-93 Legend which I believe was replaced by the Wolverine. It has the same barrel with a wooden stock. I have a Redfield 2X7 scope on it. In Virginia when I bought the gun you had to use all lead bullets so I got some Knight 260gr. lead bullets with sabots. I got decent groups with 100 grains of loose Pyrodex but dropped to 90 grains and my groups tightened up considerably. I tried jacketed bullets when they became legal but couldn't get the same accuracy and since all the deer and the ram I shot with the lead bullets were one shot kills I stuck with the 260gr lead bullet. At 50 yards the groups are so tight it looks like one ragged hole. At 100 yards the groups usually stay near 2 inches. Sometimes as tight as 1.5. Different barrels will shoot different loads so if you'd like to tighten up your groups you might be able to do it by making slight changes to the amount of powder. Sometimes even a 5 grain change will make a big difference. Since a black powder gun is a relatively shot range weapon, compared to a center-fire, your gun is capable of taking game at reasonable distance. Sounds like you've got a shooter there. Good luck with the gun and remember to wear ear and eye protection.
It has a lot to do with the shooter and the load you are using. I have a Knight Wolverine and it shoot extremely well. 50 yard shots with an inch and 100 yards come in at 2-3 inches.
Well it depends somewhat on the shooter and what you choose to load your gun with.
if you think thats a tight group try the CVE electra (but dont go out and buy one the knight is a verry reputable gun and CVA has a somewhat bad rep)
