Well, Padd, I've owned a business for many years and I can tell you that I absolutely hate to have to fire an employee. I have never ever considered that person's home situation in my decision, as in Oh well, he/she has a spouse with a good job. The decision has to be made on the merits of the employee's performance. Period. Hiring is based on what we expect an employee to bring to our bottom line. I'm afraid that we have to consider our profits, always. We are not in business in order to socialize, but to make a living for ourselves and our employees. I think that this is why we all work for wages. I don't know what mistake that your daughter made, and I am sorry for her, respect that she brought her mistake to her supervisor's attention, and hope that she will find new employment soon, but I think that there must have been a reason more important than her higher salary. We Need the people who work for us. They are a vital part of our business. I had rather pay high wages to a good employee than low wages to not so great. I hope that things work out for her but I feel that I had to answer from an employer's point of view. By the way, I can't imagine firing anyone for making one mistake. I had a book keeper once who accidently printed out a check for $100,000 instead of $1000 and mailed it to a vendor. Fortunately, the mistake was caught and we had a good relationship with the vendor, so it was a big, although somewhat nervous, laugh for us all. I didn't fire her, but I would have if that money had gotten away from us.
