Question:

Main Connector 20+4 on PSU work on a 20pin slot on MB?

I am thinking on upgrading my power supply to a 650wat. It has a 20+4 pin on the main connector. I just want to know if it will work on my mb when it has a 20pin slot. Is it ok if the extra 4 pins on the main connector on the powersupply hang over?

Answer:

yes i will obviously work. just plug 20 pin of PSU to MB. leave 4 pins of other color as happens many time
the power supply will still work on 20pin board the extra four pins are usually for the MB that takes all 24pins.
Yes this will work fine. I did the same thing recently my mobo has a 20 pin connection I just let the 4 pin hang over. No problems so far. Good Luck
Yes it will work like everyone said. I just dont understand why you need THAT much power on a system that cant be powerful enough to use it. They dont even make motherboards anymore without a 20+4 pin connector because CPUs now need more power. If you have such a strong graphics card that it needs 650w, you should consider upgrading your entire computer. I have a E6600 Core 2 Duo @ 3.1ghz, and a GeForce 8800GTS and my computer doesnt use or need the full 600w PSU I have. Id save alittle money and get one allittle cheaper
The 20+4 connector means that those extra four pins can be separated from the main 20 so you can still use it with older motherboards. They can hang over as long as they're tied back and don't make contact with other components.
