Question:

Materials for a life-size sculpture?

I want to make a life-size Jurassic Park Velociraptor sculpture. The dimensions would be somewhere around 5ft tall, 2.5ft wide, and 6ft long (from nose to tail tip). I plan on making it as realistic as possible. It‘s going to be displayed inside so it doesn‘t need to be weather resistant. I would just like to know what material I should use to make it? It‘s rather large to be made from clay, and I would have to make it in several pieces then stick them together somehow. What materials do people normally use to make huge sculptures? Any help is useful. Thanks.

Answer:

Probably. You will need to replace the tire
probably. riding on a low tire puts additional stress on the side wall.
Paper m?ché on a chicken wire base world work as a frame itself for this, and for detail and texture maybe you could use liquid latex that#x27;s coloured or paint it how you need liquid latex is good for texture and plastic eyes or paint over large marbles! For talons you could easily make those out of clay for realistic ness aswell.same with teeth or you could cast em‘!:3 hope this helped!(note only now realised this was 2 years ago DONT CAREgt;_gt;)
Fiberglass for lightweight, maybe paper mache. Which means you need to make a mold. Which means you need mold making experience or a lot of money to pay somebody to do everything for you. How much sculpture experience do you have? A sculptor would make an armature out of steel and use oil based clay to model the statue. Then a mold would get made from that, and the materials used would be depend on what your next material would be. For making something of that size you would need a good amount of experience in making something smaller. I would think your best bet is using paper mache, but you still would need a good armature. If you are better working with wood I guess the armature could be made out of wood and chickenwire.
