Question:

Metal question?

This may sound stupid, but could someone please tell me all the diffrent types of metal and explain them??

Answer:

you mean hardest, like you're testing with a rockwell tester? i'll assume you mean pure elements, so a compressed sample of tungsten would be quite hard. as to resistivity to corrosion, all metals can be affected by acid, I would guess that the more electronegative the metal was, the more resistance it would have to corrosion. the earth and alkalai earth metals react violently, and support this assumption. good luck hold up i just checked my materials engineering textbook, and it said that gold and platinum were the hardest metals to corrode. if you've done any chemistry, you'll know that gold will accept electrons from most other elements, and is actually more cathodic than water. (meaning that it will not (unforced) dissociate into water.
The hardest known metal alloy, and the hardest known metal in general, is a type of carbon steel. Carbon steel is surpassed in hardness only by very hard nonmetals, such as ruby, diamond, or aggregated diamond nanorods.
Chromium is regarded with great interest because of its high corrosion resistance and hardness. 18 % Chromium and 11% nickel form stainless steel which is very durable steel and does not corrode. Chromium is a very strong , hard and durable metal even in elemental form. They use chromium to electroplate a hard surface onto steel shafts of hydraulic cylinders. It also is the famous chrome plate that is used for show on motorcycles and show cars. It doesn't corrode and it takes heat very well and is resistant to acids, greases and general bad environments including salt water.
Tungsten metal, it is almost diamond hard.
The strongest metal is Tungsten, when its in its purest form.
