Question:

My husband is a blue collar construction worker. He doesn't do well in school but realizes now that he needs?

some retraining as his 43year old body just can not operate heavy equipment anymore. I have been looking into other career choices for him that do not require much schooling due to his limitations. Would anybody out there have any suggestions. He has a bad back so keep that in mind as you answar. At this point, it doesn't matter if he needs to travel out of state. Thank you.

Answer:

Look at your local community college at two year career programs. Most CC have large older students populations and all of them have tutoring centers.
He needs to go to a career center and get an assessment done. He is 43 so he probably has all kinds of skills but doesn't realize it. What sort of heavy equipment are you talking about? Bulldozer and excavator? If so he might look into training others or doing supervision work. If he has worked around construction sites with heavy equipment in the US he is probably familiar with the safety requirements, and nowadays there are jobs in the safety industry. There is training available, usually, in safety. Assess his back injury, what does it keep him from doing? Some heavy equipment is less strenuous on the back.... need more info. How about trucking? There's crossover in the skills department but possibly not so hard on the back. Just remember, just because he is a blue collar construction worker, at 43 his skill set is probably not only well developed but in demand. Career counselling is really important, and staying positive. Good luck!
if he is technically inclined, get him to attend a evening technical college
He can go to collage or maybe a smaller one for adults get education and find very good job.Maybe he can be a store clerk or a bagging person although that gives you no money.
