Question:

My netbook will only connect to the access point with ethernet cable, wireless won't work?

For some reason if I try to connect to the thing using my computer's wireless it won't work. It keeps telling me that it isn't responding to my computer. But my laptop isn't the only wireless device hooked up to the internet through it, and everything else seems to be working fine. My computer will only connect to it if I use the cable though. I've already tried restarting everything. And I can't try changing the security for the access point because its my parents' and I don't have access to all that stuff. Any ideas/suggestions?

Answer:

Typically, companies make their computer systems a whole lot more secure than what you are describing Most companies use VPN software so they can control who has access and a record of what they are doing Check with your company IT guy or group
The batteries are most likely just to back up. Check the wire connections. If you have loose or disconnected wire, it will cause all of the detectors to go OFF.
